California Senate Letter on Trade and Pharmaceuticals

This letter to USTR warns of a possible conflict between trade agreements and legislation that encourages generic firms to challenge patents and enter the marketplace earlier, as well as pending legislation t allow the parallel importation of pharmaceuticals from Australia and other developed countries.  It also warns that the free trade agreement with Australia may interfere with California's use of preferred drug lists to negotiate discounted drug prices.
