New Hampshire established a state-level trade commission to look at
NAFTA and the WTO agreements in 2007. Commission members are drawn
from all three branches of government, plus labor and business
leaders. The
New Hampshire Citizens Trade Policy Commission is educating its members, planning public hearings,
and choosing areas of further study and response. Its next meeting will take place March 2, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in
room 307 of the Legislative Office Building. More information can

Senate Bill 162 draws on previous NH legislation and models from other states.
The loss of manufacturing jobs in New Hampshire is related to U.S. trade policy, especially with respect to China. As a share of total employment, New Hampshire's job losses resulting from the trade deficit with China were the highest in the U.S.A.
